This is the new briefing of National Security Strategy we, the United States, are adopting to protect the security of American people, our territory and way of life, which is the foremost mission and constitutional duty of every Administration of the United States. After the global change of world order and entering new millennium, regardless to our own prosperity and stability we have experienced large range of new threats and terrible attacks like 9/11 that know no respect to boundaries, values and true human dignity.
In this new era and environment of threats where are no margins between traditional and non-traditional threats and challenges, where the security from beyond the borders and challenges from within the borders are blurred, where the separation between international problems and domestic ones is evaporating, the line between domestic and foreign policy is eroding. International and domestic stages are mutually influential, therefore the United States have to ensure security in different levels. First, we have to address threats to our home land and American people to ensure stability, prosperity and safe environment. The United States have both to enhance security against all possible threats that might occur on our own land against our people and to create great capability of response and dealing with consequences. Second, we have to cooperate with our allies to address global and regional threats as American people are engaged in several missions in different parts of the world and as new threats are becoming more global and cross-boundaries in their scale. Therefore the United States with its large capacity to act and economic, military and technological advantages have to participate in international effort to gain peace, stability and secure environment not only at home land, but world wide.
American assets are large and as it goes along being a great power so are responsibilities, so these assets have to be used accordingly to our interests and priorities making the difference through our engagement in domestic and global security issues. …
