CONCLUSIONS
There are many reasons why the screen version differs from the novel and why the director of the movie has changed the plot, its structure and the protagonists.
Firstly, changing the plot, themes and the characteristics of the protagonists are done in order to attract the audience of the 20th century.
Secondly, Uncas and Cora die at the end of the novel showing that ‘different races should not mix’. However, Michael Mann, the director of the movie, avoids the question of racism.
Furthermore, the main idea for the Mann to change the plot was to make ‘a passionate and vivid love story in a war zone’.
It is noteworthy that Mann changed his characters to make the movie more romantic than the novel. He chose to show co-existence between white men and Indian, but at the same time he showed how much white men have influenced the life of Indian culture.
Considering all, there are many similarities and differences between the plot of the novel and the movie. The main similarities are the themes of love, family and the life of Indians. Exposition, basic conflicts and part of climax are similar. However, the differences are the themes of friendship, revenge and racism. Concerning the plot structure, rising action, falling action and resolution differ.

THESES
1. The attraction of the audience in 20th century is the main cause for the film makers to change the plot of the novel.
2. By creating different characters and by putting them together in terrible conditions, Cooper shows the possibility/impossibility of living side by side, not taking into account human’s background.
3. The main conflict and aim of the movie and the novel is to reunite the family.
4. Novel is rarely identical to its screen version.
5. Mann changed his characters to make the movie more romantic than the novel.
