As Ieva Zauberga writes in her book ‘Theoretical Tools for Professional Translators’ that many would claim that anyone who knows foreign languages can make a reasonably good translation. Translation process is often seen as a mechanical transfer of a text from one language into another. What a translator needs is patience and a good dictionary. However, numerous substandard translations all around us (advertisements, novels, newspaper articles, TV) call for revision of general ideas about professional translation.
