The main principles of cooperation between employers and employees in Latvia are set out in the Labor Law of Latvia adopted on June 20, 2001 by the Saeima of Latvia and entered into force on June 1, 2002.
Employment contract.
Labor Law defines labour contract as an agreement between an employee and employer, whereunder the employee agrees to perform work for the employer subject to his/her supervision and control, and the employer undertakes to pay remuneration for the work done and ensure the working conditions set out in the employment contract, collective agreement, law, or administrative act.
Labor law of Latvia also inludes the International Labor Law and Inrenational Agreements. If an international agreement, which has been ratified by the Saeima, sets out provisions that differ from those contained in this Law, the provisions of the international agreement shall be applied.
