Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš, the author of narrative “Ūdeņi” (“The Waters”), is a very famous Latvian author. He was born on August 25, 1877 in farm Krodziņi of Nereta’s parish and died in 1962 in Germany. His father's first name was Jānis and the mother was Ieva, born Saknītis.
His father died when he was only 2 years old. After fathers death his family moved to Nereta. He learned to read and right when he was 5 years old.
Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš studied in Nereta parish school and graduated from Vecsātu agriculture school in 1897. His first idea was of becoming a painter and he studied in V.Blūms school of drawing in Rīga (1899-1904). He began to publish fiction in 1906 and later wrote stories, novels, plays.
He got married with Lizete Sproģe in 1901. This marriage was very successful; they had one daughter Lilija.
In 1914 he moves to Baku, Russia. Later about this time he writes the novel “Nāves deja” (“Dance Macabre”).
In 1918 they move back to Latvia from Baku. His wife dies. This is very hard period in life of Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš. Despite everything two month after his wife’s death he gets married to the nurse Elizabete Ābele. This marriage becomes as a hell – she is rude, jealous, and slipshod and hated his daughter. They lived together for 15 years, but after a long annulment of a marriage finely they got divorced. This time he has described in novel “Neskaties saulē” (“Don’t Look In the Sun”). Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš overall had been married four times.
In 1924 he with his daughter travels around the Europe. During this traveling Lilija (his daughter) met her husband V. Steppler. He is German and so she moves with him to Germany.
