Inflation can have adverse effects on an economy. For example, unpredictability about future inflation may discourage investment and saving. High inflation may direct to shortages of wares if consumers begin hoarding out of concern that prices will increase in the future.

The statistical data from the Eurostat and Central Statistical bureau is analyzed to successfully overview the situation in the case of Latvia. This course paper contains both theoretical information concerning what inflation is, what the inflation classification is. In the course paper the theoretical information about the ways of coping and the consequences of the inflation are going to be provided. Also the course paper contains economical analysis of the inflation in Latvia during the period of the last 8 years starting with year 2003 and ending with the beginning of the year 2009. Then In the conclusion, the effects of the inflation in the case of Latvia are going to be summarized.
