Conclusions
In conclusion, the work will merit a certain classification of ideas in foreign policy, according to which candidates for the democratic nomination for U.S. President plan to implement key aspects of foreign policy, economic and environmental ideas and issues related to the use of force. It is important to understand that most of the democrats agree on most issues of foreign policy, but there are a certain number of formalities and features that do not
correspond to the generally accepted ideals that some of them plan to implement after their hypothetical election to the presidency.
It is also worth considering such a factor as age, because becoming the President of such a superpower as the United States, a person bears the burden of huge responsibility and people of age, due to health problems, senility and other reasons, may not be effective enough, are insane and simply are not able to make and implement important foreign policy decisions.
Thus, three of the candidates for more than 75 years, Joe Biden and Michael Bloomberg – 77 years, and Bernie Sanders is 78 years old, Elizabeth Warren – 70, the Stayer – 62 years, Amy Klobuchar – 59 years, while Pete Buttigieg and Tulsi Gabbard is 38 years. Next, we will
analyze the similarities and differences of views on foreign policy of 8 U.S. presidential candidates from the democratic party.
1. On the use of force, democrats have similar views, considering such use a “last resort” when there are no other methods left, placing high hopes on Congress, allowing the possibility of intervention in humanitarian crises; 2. Considering the candidates’ positions
regarding the Middle East, it is worth noting that the majority sees a bilateral solution to the conflict in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, but Tom Steyer considers it necessary to stop aid to Israel, and Elizabeth Warren wants to resume diplomatic contacts with Palestine.…
An important task is to analyze the foreign policy views of U.S. presidential candidates as people who can potentially become the head of state of the United States of America, which will give them a lot of powers, as well as opportunities to implement their foreign policy ambitions. It is necessary to briefly recall the main tools and functions of the U.S. President in foreign policy: the U.S. President is the commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed forces; is the chief Executive of the Federal government; has the right to negotiate and conclude agreements with other countries; his powers include the appointment of federal employees, such as ministers and ambassadors, who can also play a significant role in the implementation of foreign policy, but after approval by Congress; has the right to issue effective decrees in the field of force of acts of Congress; sign or veto bills passed by Congress; the President is directly responsible for U.S. citizens who are abroad. These, as well as many other functions and responsibilities of the president are used by him to implement formed foreign policy goals that may be motivated by many factors, and depend on the current geopolitical situation, and on the president's personality as such, a set of his moral and volitional qualities, views, empathy or sympathy for specific political actors. The analysis of these views is currently of the greatest interest due to the fact that the foreign policy views of the main candidate and the current U.S. president – Donald Trump, have become known for 4 years, due to the possibility of their pragmatic analysis. While the views of the 8 democratic presidential candidates, including: Joe Biden, Michael Bloomberg, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Tulsi Gabbard, Amy Klobuchar, Tom Steyer, Elizabeth Warren, remain not so well known. Their analysis will allow us to anticipate the possible vector of foreign policy, as well as certain aspects of relations with different countries, if one of them wins the elections in 2020.
