Security is not something that is only specific to business or networks; security is a natural human need in all aspects of life. Abraham Maslow in his pyramid of needs has put security as the second most important need after physiological needs. This clearly demonstrates the importance of security in human society it being one of the basic instincts.
Maslow has intended personal safety; however, personal safety has been expanding from being safe from fierce animals to protecting one’s credit card number. All this should apply also to the business life, which is nothing else, but subdivisions of society with the same rules.
Still, it is easier to forget about data security that safety from being killed, the losses are somewhat abstract and hard to realize until met in reality. This is why I will begin with demonstrating the importance of security measures throughout businesses and the possible losses that the failure to apply these measures can cause.
1.Why security is important
Security has been addressed since the very beginning of entrepreneurial activities; the first merchants were not willing to share information about their goods, income and best markets with every other person, they could easily fall a victim to robbers and pirates if not being careful. Companies all have their confidentiality policies and physical security measures- fire alarms, ID verification upon entrance and multiple others. These measures are widely accepted and understood to be essential to any company and they all are one of the most important parts of each and every business.
What is important to remember is that all technological achievements, all development, emergence of new tools and practices carry not only the obvious benefits, but also new threats and risks with them.
