Our theme is court system in Latvia and court system in State of California. We wanted to compare these two systems. It was very interesting, because court system in Latvia is different from USA court system.
USA is big country with different kind of laws and rules, that’s why we chose only one state.
This presentation discusses the California and Latvia court systems.
We found following differences:
1)There are two separate court systems: state and federal. (The majority of cases are filed in state courts). While Latvia has only one system – judicial power in the Republic of Latvia is vested in district (city) courts, regional courts, the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court.
2)Court system in Latvia is simple than California court system. Latvia has three level court system, constitutional court and institutions belonging to court system – Orphans court, Parish court, Tenancy court and General Registry Office, but in California are State courts and different types of courts -Family Court, Juvenile Court, Criminal Court, Traffic Court, Small Claims Court.…
