The Strategy aims at:
● increasing the competitiveness of the tourism sector in Bulgaria;
● positioning Bulgaria as a world-recognised destination brand;
● the enhancement of tourism attractions and related infrastructure;
● introducing international standards, best practices and innovations in the tourism sector; the preservation, reconstruction and improvement of tourism resources
The main objectives and tasks for tourism planning and management in Bulgaria according to the NSSTD are as follows:
● the diversification of the national tourism product, an increase in tourism services’ quality, and the protection of customer rights and security; the priority is given to eco- and rural tourism as key sectors in sustainable tourism development;
● the efficient marketing and promotion of Bulgaria as a tourist destination;
● the division of Bulgarian territory into tourism regions (destinations);
● the creation of a modern integrated system of management of tourism activities, the modernisation of tourism administration, and the development of partnerships between public and private;
● the introduction of modern environmental standards and practices such
as energy-efficient technologies, production of energy from natural and
self-restored sources, etc.
