After his initial years of schooling at home, he entered Trinity College in Dublin, then went on to study the classics at Magdalen College, Oxford.
It was here that he came under the influence of writer and critic Walter Pater and excelled in his studies, winning many prizes and awards including Oxford's Newdigate Prize for his poem "Ravenna" .
After school Wilde settled in London and continued to write poetry.
After a year he moved to America and Canada, Oscar worked there as a lector.
Wilde married Constance Mary Lloyd, they had two sons.
Though Wilde's sexual orientation has variously been considered bisexual and homosexual, Wilde himself felt he belonged to a culture of male love inspired by the Greek pederastic tradition.…
