Nearly the lake are Mērsrags and Kūļciems.
The lake itself is located in Piejūras zemiene.

Flora and fauna
There are 5 species of fish, 44 of birds, 40 of plants that are written in “Sarkanā grāmata”.
It's full of birds and it has a bird-watching tower for ornithologists.
Blue Cows, wild horses, orchids, waterlily, vetch, corncrake, eagle owl etc.

Pollution
No chemical pollution.
The lake is mostly overgrown with sludge (dūņas) and reed (niedres).
