Everything started in 1970, when the founder of Virgin Richard Branson set up a record mail order company. In following years he established new corporations and up to 1983 there were already 50 companies in varied spheres. A year later R. Branson established the one of the most recognizable and one of the most powerful Virgin group’s companies – Virgin Airways. For all that the biggest surprise came in 2005 when R. Branson by establishing Virgin Galactic declared his plans to enable non-professional “astronauts” enter the cosmos.
By now the Virgin groups companies operate in spheres like travel and tourism (Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Holidays, Virgin Trains, Virgin Limited Edition, Virgin Holidays Cruises, Virgin Limobike, Virgin Balloon Flights, Virgin Galactic), leisure and pleasure (Virgin Games, The Virgin Voucher, V Festival UK, Virgin Comics, Virgin Experience Days), shopping (Virgin Books, Virgin Drinks, Virgin Vie at Home, Virgin Wines), media and telecommunications (Virgin 1, Virgin Media, Virgin Mobile UK, Virgin Radio UK), finance and money (Virgin Money UK), health (Virgin Active UK, Virgin Health Bank, Virgin Healthcare), social and environment (Virgin Earth, Virgin Green Fund, Virgin Unite). The total number of companies is 250, they employ 50,000 people and the revenue reaches $ 20 billions, but the value of that huge group defined $ 3.2 billions.
