Lingo - Stylistic Analysis of the Extract "Marionettes, Inc." by Ray Bradbury

Fragments: The author has used the stylistic effect of onomatopoeia to emphasize and stress out that “the thing” is clearly a robot and not a human being. Braling`s introduced dublicate android marionette ticks like a clock: “tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick”. However, the narrator of the text suggests the idea of “the thing” not being a human already before Smith hears the ticking sound coming from it by giving a phrase “uncomplaining ribs” on which Smith in a wavering manner leaned forward and placed his head against. The phrase “uncomplaining ribs” has a hidden meaning that it is a mechanism. When describing Smith`s first actions after the realization of Braling II being a robot, the narrator calls the android “the thing”, which indicates surprise and shock of Smith for he simply does not know how to call the invention, nor he knows what to think, therefore the simplest “the thing” is chosen.
