There was no double standard for men and women in Utopia. The Utopians went to great lengths to make sure that no one would want to cheat on their spouse.
<Tab/>By More writing his novel Utopia he was able to stress the ideas of European society that he disagreed with, religion and marriage being only but two of them. He emphasized his concern with the church by suggesting that freedom of religion could create good, uncorrupt civilians. More was able to show how the church creates problems because of the ruler's idea that they as rulers did not need to be upright. In marriage, More showed his disgust for the promiscuity that was allowed in Europe. He did not simply say that people should be punished for severely, but he wanted to do away with adultery altogether. Couples had to be attracted to one another so that there would be no reason to want to cheat on one another. More brings out many issues that he resents in Europe but he does this safely by having a dissenting opinion of Europe and also has someone who is in compliance with the way Europe is run. More's Utopia, calls for a more perfect society. Therefore, I chose Sir Thomas More.
