In summary, I have discussed how the role of the human resources manager has changed from a compliance, benefits and compensation position to one of strategic planner in conjunction with the leadership of the firm. The first focus of growing trends in which today's human resource manager must tackle is globalization. Today's human resources manager has to focus not only on how to strategically position the firm globally to succeed in meeting the local customers wants and needs but how to do so without infracting on government regulations. Then I discussed the growing trend of information technology. Today's firm manager can access data about any team, department or division from anywhere in the world, making business decisions in a more timely and cost-effective manner. Then the paper leads to diversity. Human resource managers must frequently review the firm's expectations for the workforce and the qualifications in which the firm will expect the workforce to have or maintain for employment. Next focus was turned to e-business for the human resources manager. E-business is an important function of the human resource manager's role as the strategic planner as e-business helps the manager better aggregate information on performance and measures of performance, automate administrative tasks, and refine the distribution of tasks across departments and divisions. Finally described was the role of the human resources manager as a change agent for selecting or developing programs which display a balance between compliance and values, while integrating the performance appraisal, training, and disciplinary processes into the firm's culture.
