CONCLUSION
There is no doubt in anyone's mind that the endless infusion of violence in the streets has reached epidemic proportions. The senseless murders, drive by shootings, rapes, assaults and firearm accidents must be curtailed. Neither approach acting alone is going to suffice, although in combination each side can act as an integral part to the solution. If ever there was a time and a need for compromise, it is now. A total ban on handguns is both unconstitutional and unrealistic, yet at the same time the continued availability of handguns present a major crime threat.
Only through cooperation can a solution the problem be realized. Valid middle ground approaches to the gun problem have been suggested. It's time for the groups fighting the battle to conceded a bit of ground and accept the art of compromise. If not for the benefit of themselves, at least for the collective good of society.
