Nowadays it has become essential to form informational links between government officials and the public. That is why a great number of public relations agencies, departments, and professionals within the governmental area are operating to manage good relations with media. Nevertheless, politicians have to communicate by themselves as well, thus showing their competence, receptiveness and that they are not dreading the responsibility behind the backs of public relations professionals and press secretaries. One of my favorite politicians is H. E. Dr. Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, President of Latvia, as she, in a way, has quite spectacular control over the “bully pulpit”. This expression “bully pulpit” is used to mean a position of authority or public visibility in a political office, from which one may express one's views. The position gives her the ability to bully other people into agreeing with her. The position is one from which she can express her views about different political issues.
