Many young people in the world dream of living in a big city, but is big city life really different and better than life in a smaller city? I have had the opportunity to live both in a big city – St. Petersburg, which has 4 million inhabitants, and in a relatively small city – Riga, with 750 thousand inhabitants.
It is a common belief that life in a big city is much faster and you have little free time to rest, but in a smaller city life is less stressful and more relaxing. I personally found this to be the other way around. In Petersburg I had much more free time than I do here, even though I did have the same number of activities. I can only think of a few reasons for this. First, school takes up more time here than it did in Petersburg, even though I had to go to school on Saturdays too. Also, there I spent all my free time at home, but here in Riga I do many other things in my spare time too so in the end I have less time that I can spend at home. …
