The European Union is a super structure, consolidating many countries of Europe. The Union is rather economical organization than political one. The heart of the Union, its driving force, is the European Commission. There are twenty members from different countries of the EU in the Commission, the President of the Commission now is Romano Prody. The Commission is the executive body of the EU, with legislative initiative – government in fact. The European Commission strongly cooperates with The European Parlament and the Council of Europe in its legislative rountines.
The European Parliament doesn’t differ in fact from parliaments in usual countries – it adopts or rejects legislative proposals. There are 626 members in the Parliament (it is planned to increase this number up to 700), one part of them are members of different political groups, the other are independent ones.
