Elizabethan theatre in London

The aim of this essay is to discuss why theatre in London during the Elizabethan peri-od represents the peak of English performance art, with a key focus on the social and historical contexts, iconic playwrights and the opening of public theatres.
The Elizabethan era, also known as the “Golden Age” (1558–1603), was a sig-nificant period in the history of England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. It was also a time of the Late English Renaissance. To this day, the Queen is remembered as a wise monarch and an intelligent leader of the country, who tried her best to improve the lives of her subjects.
