Many researches have shown that electoral rules are important for women’s chances to get elected. The topic of “Electoral Systems” encouraged me to look at effect of electoral systems on women’s representation and provide examples (using research “Woman in Parliament” written by Julie Cool) that were not mentioned in the readings.
First, countries with the highest representation of women in Parliament are Rwanda (56%), Sweden (47%), Cuba (43%), Finland (41,5%), Argentina (40%), Netherlands (39%), Denmark (38%), Angola, Costa Rica and Spain (37%). We can conclude that these re either Nordic or post-conflict Latin American or African countries.…
