Conclusion
African American studies as an academic discipline, must continue to examine and expand its methodologies, theories and impact on the academic terrain of this century. It must appeal to all people of the intellectual community. It is, therefore, important to know the roles that the African American studies have played in the community. Politically, it has strengthened the policies and activities of African American leadership. Intellectually, it has created an avenue where people can view the life experiences of African American people as significant, instructive and unique. Socially, it has provided an arena to mentor, recognize and support students in their efforts to realize their potential. Culturally, it has presented alternative ways of viewing the world for people with African descent, so that they can live out unnecessary traditional African beliefs and ideas.
