In this essay I am going to speak about the position of women in the Age of Reason on the example of one of the most famous Defoe's novels "The Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Famous Moll Flanders, Who Was Born In Newgate, and During a Life of Continued Variety For Threescore Years, Besides Her Childhood, Was Twelve Year a Whore, Five Times a Wife (Whereof Once To Her Own Brother), Twelve Year a Thief, Eight Year a Transported Felon In Virginia, At Last Grew Rich, Lived Honest, and Died a Penitent. Written from Her Own Memorandums”. This is the full name of the novel which gives some insight into the outline of the plot. However, in everyday life it is commonly known as simply "Moll Flanders". I have chosen this theme because Daniel Defoe is one of my favourite writers from the very childhood. If speaking about this particular novel, I have already read it several times. Now the aim was to read it and look at it from the point of view of the position of women in the Age o Reason. The main point that I have found out is that as many times you reread Defoe’s books, as many times you find something new for yourself.…
