George Orwell is an English author and journalist. He is among the most widely admired English-language essayists of the 20th century. In this work I am going to analyse the essay “Why I Write”, which is detailing the author’s personal journey to becoming a writer. It offers a type of mini-biography as he writes of having first completed poems and trying his hand at short-stories before finally becoming a full-fledged writer, but also examines the motivation of writing itself through the four reasons Orwell felt people write.
This essay seemed to me very intimate, because the author fully opens his soul, his true feelings and thoughts. He deals not only with the things which the reader would like to hear, but also with some facts that possibly are not so positive, however, they are sincere and honest.
As the first motivation of writing Orwell names sheer egoism. Not every person would have courage to say that his occasions are not so clean and unmercenary, especially popular person not in private conversation. The author does not try to pretend and present himself like a saint person.…
