Anti-Semitism is prejudice against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group, which historically has taken different forms. I will discuss three main forms of anti-Semitism—religious, racial, and, so called, new anti-Semitism. Each of them brings hatred, violence, and destruction into society.
Hatred towards Jews that can be attributed to the Jewish religion and ethnicity rooted mainly from the anti-Judaism in the New Testament. The wrong interpretation of the passages that some see as anti-Semitic can be found, for example, in John 8:37-39, 42-47 where Jesus speaking to the Pharisees says: “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I am from God and now I am here. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murder from the very beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” There are many other examples in the New Testament, which have been used for the anti-Semitic purposes. One of the most significant accusations is that Jews are responsible for Jesus’ death.
