Conclusion.
Concisely, I've learned that anorexia has many causes such as media, chemical imbalances and culture. It is challenging to differentiate whether someone is suffering from the illness and people suffering from anorexia usually are in complete denial that something is wrong. Complications such as hormonal imbalances, dehydration, heart disease and even death can occur with out proper treatment. Treating an anorexic person can be difficult because of their refusal to eat. The best way to treat anorexia is by healthy eating, exercise and increasing the self esteem of an individual so they can have a healthy body image.
To finalize my thoughts, I believe that once we become nurses it is very important to recognize the signs and symptoms of an anorexic individual. A simple statement like "I am fat" can be a sign of a distorted body image. I believe that once I become a nurse this experience will help me treat and recognize the symptoms of an anorexic person. It is much easier to sincerely empathize with a patient if you have an understanding of what they are going through.
